Essay’s Reflection

During my school year I have written research paper, biographical essay, autobiographical narrative, and I believe a bibliography too. Freshman year, I wrote an essay explaining how I got into the system. In that essay I did pretty well. I got like a B. Ms. Priester’s expectation were to do 3 drafts before the final draft. We had to self edit, peer edit and adult proofread. It took about a week an a half to have everything ready.
I have also done an autobiographical narrative on the book Bless Me, Ultima. I got help on that paper but I actually think I got an A. It was well written and it has a lot of time into it. It took about the same time as the other. The expectations were the same as for the other paper we had written.
I did a research paper and it was on the use of cell phones. It was actually very fun to write about it and I gather lots of good information for it. I got a high A on it. I think that was one of my best written papers of my school years. At least for the 10th grade it was.
During the time of writing essays it actually very stressful to me at times. However I love writing essays. I like personal essay the best and also about topics I am able to choose, that interest me like abortion, teen pregnancies, etc.
Essays are fun and I am exited to get started. Thank you.

Reflection

I think that in order for teachers to really teach students in the foster care system, he or she needs to be able to teach at the level this student is able to learn at. I think this way because when you teach a student at the level they are at, they are able to understand their work better. However, some students in foster care have no motivation in wanting to learn therefore they settle for less. When it comes to that point, it doesn’t matter if you are grading them in coloring between the lines or comprehension on books, they just won’t be teachable students.
Sometimes, I wonder why students don’t have motivation which makes me think if it really has anything to do with the system or not. Personally I feel that some foster kids just want people to feel bad for them and they pull the foster kid card. I think that we have advantage of achieving many of our goals, at least a high school diploma. We are able to make up our grades and improve them and take college classes. Failure is not what we are but it is what we choose. Sometimes taking the easy way is better at the time but later it won’t pay as well as hard work will.
In the end, when students are at that un-teachable stage, a teacher can’t help much but to try to motivate them to do well. Unfortunately teachers don’t have all the power to just teach one person at a time. They got to keep going and so if someone chooses to stay back then, see you later.

Me Vs. Reality

I have grown in many areas as time goes by. What I used to care about then I don’t care anymore. I was not very responsible, or mature. My understanding of life is different now. I am now more responsible. I am able to now be able to take the responsibility of the things I do, instead of blaming things on others. I am more mature and able to recognize the healthy types of relationships. I understand how a relationship should be and how life generally is. I understand the importance in honesty and respect, as I didn’t know that much then. I thought life was to have fun and never thought about how, especially girls, should have respect for ourselves.

I have also grown emotionally. I am able to realize that feeling will always change; however they should not control our life. When I was younger I would cry all day in my bed and not care about anything. Now I understand that life will be amazing and then cruel and all I can do is keep living it to the best I can. I stopped living in the past and focused on the present and the future. In order to continue life we got to keep moving forward.

What caused me to grow in these areas is my little sister. Knowing I will be the one she looks up to I don’t want her to have my bad habits. I want her to be proud and follow my good examples. She motivates me to be who I want to be. To reach my goals and move forward each day. She is my motivation, my little sister. :)

Writing Discussion Questions

4. Do you think that kids who are mediocre will want to follow the a specific set of guidelines for writing? Should they? Explain your answer.
I believe that those kids who are mediocre will not follow the writing process but it would definitely be a good idea for them to follow it because it will allow them to raise their standards.

6. Would you say that someone who uses the reading and thought process mentioned in the packet is better than someone who did not even if they are also a skilled writer?
I think that using the thought and writing process is helpful to anybody. Even the best writers need to gather up their ideas.

7. What if kids do not want to "Raise their Standards"? What is the solution then?
If kids don’t want to raise their standards than that’s on them. Everyone should not have to lower their standards for others to be appeased.

8. What do you think is a good way of getting a student to be a more motivated writer?
A good way to get students to be a more motivated writer would be to have them write things about what they find interesting.

What Is Reading

1) Reading is a physical, mental, and mechanical process.
2) Eyes fixationize 90-95% of the time you are reading.
3) Sweep is the way eyes change from line to line.
4) Regression is when looking back at something you have already read.
5) Must identify works before comprehending them.

The ideal group model is the one that stay on task and help each other understand things. If I was a teacher wht would make me say "yeepee" wou;d be watching my students working together and not neccessary in groups but as one whole group. In my opinion my group worked well. We did not communicate as much but we answered any questions we had. We also commented on our opinions a litte. I think that if we would have dicussed things a little better my group would have been better. Overal it was really good.

Final Check-In Letter

My experience in Ms. Priester’s class was overall really good. She was able to teach me in ways I could easily understand things. All the taking notes have been totally helpful throughout the whole year. One big impact to me was preparing for the CASHEE. Ms. Priester did everything possible to have every single one of her students to pass. Being in the system distracted me from my learning in school. I was going through so much that I didn’t care about passing my classes. I used to think that a C or D in class was not that bad. When I came to SPA I realized the importance about grades. Since freshman year to sophomore year I have improved my grades so much. I cried when I got a D on my progress report this quarter. Then I realized Mr. Walker messed it up. Anyways, school has become one of the most important things for me. Being one or the only girl in my house off 2-hour makes me really proud. I have learned a lot of things being in Ms. Priester’s class. I have learned more about technology, better writing skills, and so much more. More about technology is one of the things I have learned. Ms. Priester made us do many projects in the laptops and made work fun and easier to turn in. Google Docs. is one of the many things Ms. Priester thought to us. Many students complained that they lost their work in the computer when in shut down, or they lost their hard drive, well Google Docs. saves our work if the computer shuts down. This class has thought me manners. Manners are important everywhere is this world. Ms. Priester pushes her students to the best that they can be and honestly she pushed me so much to be at the level I am now. Confidence, Ms. Priester has thought me confidence in myself to do my work and get grades about C’s. Going into my junior year, I have set goal for myself. I want to make sure I turn every single assignment in and do all my work in class. I want to try to stay at a least of a 3.5gpa. I would also like to keep this goal for my senior year and hopefully finding a college where I would like to study and keeping my same goal. Can’t wait for summer.

APA Format Prezi by Matt Van Someren

APA Format Teacher-less Lesson

APA format is one f many styles of attribution. This has two major parts which are the in-text citation and the reference page. Citing a source means that when you got the information of some website or a type of source you in parenthesis put the source name you found that in. The writer needs to cite their surces when found over any reference page. When the wrieter is citing a direct quote from the reference page they have used quotations marks around the whole thing they are dirrectly coping. A reference page is where you put all the references you have used and you put it at the back of your essay. Using APA format in my research paper will help me keep my paper organize.

KNOTT'S BERRY FARM!!!

Today was such a fun day. Our school gave a free day of school to all students who maintained a 2.7 GPA over the last 3 quarters. Many of my friend were able to go. It was so much fun, even though I didn't get in many rides. I had a great time with my friends. We had to stay in groups, at least 2 people together and I would like to thank Sam, Marquise, Jessica, Joseph, Marry, and Becky, for hanging out with me. Later on after lunch we found Mr.Walker, Ms.Priester, Ms.Emily, and Mr.Eric. It was so much fun spending time with our teachers out of school. Honestly, they are so much cooler out of school. Anyways, it was my first time going to Knott's so I really appreciate my friends understand my fear to most roller costers. HAHAH! It was really cool. Well, that's all folks. Thank you for reading!

10 Second Sound Off

I am really exited to get the new loptops. It will be so easy when we are doing projects in school. I am so happy to have saved some newborn baby, either squires or gophers, from Robert Keil and Jose from boys 5. They found this tiny little baby and they were trying to microwave them for no reason but to be mean. Lebari and I went to get the rest as we saw, what we think is the mother, get eaten by a hawk. It was sad! We got the babies and I was up every 2 hours after 10 to feed this little cuties something. I was giving them milk and today we found a little more about them and we gave them some water. I'm really going to miss them. We were thinking about giving them to Ms. Davis to give to the animal rescue but then we thought about keeping it. Now, we have decided to just let them go to a place that they can be safe. Well, things are ok so far and they are still alive. Hopefully one day I could see them again when they are big. HAHA!! CUTE!!!

YEY ME FOR SAVING AND CARING FOR SOME TINY LITTLE CUTE CREATURES!!! 100% FOR CANDY AND LEBARI, EVEN THOUGH I SHOULD GET THE WHOLE CREDIT BECAUSE I WAS THE ONE UP ALL NIGHT!!! OH, HAHA, I FORGOT, THEY SLEPT ON MY BED LAST NIGHT, THEY WERE SO CUTE....AWWWW I AM PROUD!!!

Extra Credit Blog Value Blog Post

Using blogs in schools is a good way to be able to share students projects to people. Is a way to keep track of things and as my teacher Ms. Priester does, puts our homework on her blog and we are able to know our assingment if we weren't in class. Though, a downfall would be like keeping predators away. The internet is a web page and you can be found by anyone looking for you. In our campus, we have to keep our identity hidden because of oour situation. Other than that, we get to have lots of fun, and also see what other classmates have done. A good way to get ideas about how to do a certain project, share a little about ourselves and since many teens, now in days, like technology, this is a nice easy way to keep school and technology working together.

Overall, though, things were good the food was good, but the drinks tasted a little weird. I sat with some friends and i enjoyed my time. The BBQ on friday was really fun. All the activities were very entertaining. It was very fun to have a day off from school and have fun a compete against other classes. We should do that more often.

Earthquake

In April 4, 2010, I experience an earthquake of 7.2 magnitude. I was in my room when all this happened. I was getting up to go see my boyfriend who was at the living room and as I was getting up I felt my whole house moving. I ran out to my living room because at first I thought I was literally not feeling good. Finally, we all went outside waiting for like 10 minutes until it was safe to go back in. My whole house was scared and in some points it was funny to see everyone scream there heads off. It was a new experience for me especially since every time there is an earthquake I am sleeping and I never feel them. It was quite an experience.
